RAISE: Responsible AI Adoption for Social Impact

About the initiative

The Responsible AI Adoption for Social Impact (RAISE) pilot program is a national initiative to help nonprofit organizations across Canada responsibly and effectively adopt artificial intelligence (AI).

In collaboration with the Human Feedback Foundation, Creative Destruction Lab and the Dais at TMU, RAISE features three components:

  1. A responsible AI adoption framework co-developed with participating nonprofits to guide responsible AI adoption across the sector (Human Feedback Foundation)
  2. An organizational AI adoption accelerator program for 5 large nonprofit organizations to adopt AI in alignment with their missions (Creative Destruction Lab)
  3. Targeted training for 500 nonprofit professionals to build AI literacy and integrate AI into roles like fundraising, data stewardship, policy, and service delivery (The Dais)

AI Literacy Training

The RAISE pilot aims to upskill 500+ nonprofit professionals across Canada on AI literacy and adoption through two courses:

  1. Essentials of Responsible AI Governance
  2. Responsible AI Use for Nonprofit Workers

Essentials of Responsible AI Governance

This course equips nonprofit leaders with the critical understanding and practical skills needed to strategically direct and oversee AI adoption.

Through the program, you will:

  • gain a deeper understanding of technology governance concepts
  • develop the practical skills to design specific guidelines for your organization, department, or team
  • ensure that AI responsibly and effectively serves your mission.

Course Dates:

Cohort 2: October 15, 22, and 29, 2025

Classes take place virtually from 12–2 p.m. EST.

Responsible AI Use for Nonprofit Workers

This hands-on course is designed for anyone in the nonprofit sector looking to ethically leverage AI. 

In this course, you will:

  • explore key AI concepts, different AI types and their relevance in nonprofit operations
  • delve into the critical dos and don’ts concerning AI privacy, laws, and ethics, learning to identify risks and practicing responsible AI use in real-world nonprofit scenarios
  • gain practical insights into various AI applications, enabling you to strategically enhance efficiency, program delivery, and overall impact by selecting and applying an AI tool directly to your work.

Course Dates:

Cohort 2: November 19, 26, and December 3, 2025

Classes take place virtually from 12–2 p.m. EST.
