Chris Hicks

Chris has been a school administrator since September of 2000. He has led schools composed of every grade level, the last of which is a French Immersion K – 12 school in rural Manitoba. His responsibilities and portfolios have included student services and inclusion, French Immersion, and vocational/career technology. Chris has a Master’s Degree from the University of Manitoba in the department of Educational Administration and Psychology. His thesis was entitled, Values and Ethics in the Decision Making of Principals in Manitoba.

Chris has also been a long-standing and engaged member of the Manitoba Teachers’ Society and Council of School Leaders, having served at the provincial and executive levels of both organisations.

Chris’s research interests have been primarily in the area of school leadership. Since 2017, he has taken a keen interest in the impact of smart phone use in adolescents and teenagers. His position is that although the evidence and findings are concerning, there are signs of positive change driven by capable advocates and sensible policy.

He lives in rural Manitoba with his wife and their two sons.
