Executive Summary

On June 25, 2018, the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) and the Brookfield Institute for Innovation + Entrepreneurship (BII+E) co-hosted an AI Futures Policy Lab in Toronto. The purpose of this lab was to foster the development of skills and knowledge among emerging policy leaders, both within and outside the civil service. It aimed to encourage critical thinking about potential future scenarios related to AI, set in the year 2028. In order to create an environment conducive to thoughtful collaboration and information sharing, attendance was limited to a total of 18 participants. The workshop integrated foresight exercises with brainstorming activities, with the goal of devising contemporary AI policy approaches across various domains. The detailed agenda is available in Appendix A. This event marked the beginning of a series of five workshops to be held across Canada throughout the remainder of 2018.
