Today, the federal government announced a major set of investments in Canada’s Artificial Intelligence sector. The announcement commits $2 billion to increase Canada’s AI computing capacity; and supports for other programmes to promote the adoption and good governance of AI technologies.

We’re pleased that the government is moving with urgency to address the main challenges in Canada’s AI ecosystem. We look forward to hearing more about, and contributing to, the details of the plans to implement these programmes.

The government’s announcement is informed by the recent Dais reports Can Canada Compute? and Automation Nation, which alerted Canadians to how Canada was squandering its AI advantage; and our two recent parliamentary submissions, with concrete proposals on how to make Canada’s AI economy better governed and better for workers.

The Dais at TMU is leading the work on better public policies we need for the Artificial Intelligence economy. We’re guided by our tech-first, generationally renewed lens, which promotes bold policies and better leaders to enable more shared prosperity and citizenship for Canada.
