About the TMU Democracy Forum

From free and fair elections to the innovation economy, climate crisis and women in power, join us for the TMU Democracy Forum – a year-round talks series that engages political leaders, from across the country, in dialogue about the most pressing issues facing Canadians today.

All are welcome to participate in Forum events, in person or via live stream, which are open to the public and held on campus at Toronto Metropolitan University. Advance registration is required.

Connect with inspiring leaders, speakers, scholars and thinkers on the issues that matter most to people across the nation. Listen to insightful interviews and panel talks that open up conversation on leadership and building democratic resilience in the face of current and emerging threats.

Past speakers have included Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh, Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Foreign Minister Melanie Joly and her Baltic counterparts, Defence Minister Anita Anand, UN Ambassador Bob Rae, and former provincial Premiers Rachel Notley and Kathleen Wynne.

About the Host

Martin Regg Cohn is a political columnist for the Toronto Star, founder of the Democracy Forum, and a Dais Senior Fellow at TMU. A foreign correspondent for 11 years, he has reported from more than 40 countries. He was also Foreign Editor, a world affairs columnist and Parliamentary correspondent. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Munk School of Global Affairs at U of T.
